Ships. Thousands of ships, all battered and wounded, each carrying with it a portion of the remaining Wakuran fleet. Only a few million had escaped the planet aboard these vessels, and had it not been for the valiant actions of the Wakuran military forces that weren't immediately wiped out, even they would not have survived. Sadly, this sacrifice had left the Wakurans largely defenceless, they possessed only a ew hundred military ships and only 5 percent of their remaining populace had come from the military. Even their designated capital ship, the Crusade, was but a battleship, captained by a crew with only minor leadership experience. Throw onto this the low supplies, and things were not looking good for the Wakurans.
Despite this, one individual held onto hope that they could be saved; Captain Asha Duvall of the Crusade. She was meek, inexperienced and certainly overburdened with the lives on board the ships following her command, but if there was one thing she was certain of, it was that they were headed for civilisation. Scouring ancient ruins and stray artefacts, Asha believed that if they stayed on course, they would soon be safe. She even ordered as many frequencies be scoured by as many ships as possible with messages and distress beacons, in the hope that such a massive frequency of anomalies attracts someone to help them.
"Stay strong, my people! Stay strong, for all those who died to save us, for all those we could not rescue, for all those future generations who have yet to see the light of day, we will stay strong!"
Another propoganda message sent through the comms network they had set up, it was all Captain Duvall could do to keep people's spirits up. The lingering thought that maybe they were all destined to die was constantly emerging in her mind, and the messages she sent could only do so much to suppress it. Sleep, she gave her quarters to several refugees, Food, every ration she was given she sent it to the refugees in the cargo holds, drink, she couldn't bring herself to, the messages were making her throat sore and drinking anything hurt. She braced herself as the flotilla started to make another FTL jump to another solar system.

Colonial Military Ship Atlantis
In the Command Center of the Colonial Celestial III Class Battlestar Atlantis, Captain Sven Holland was performing checks on the ship's Opilium reserves together with his crew. Or better said, what remained of his crew. Just like many other Colonial ships, after being damaged in the Battle of Tau Volantis, the Atlantis received orders to patrol behind the front, while waiting the orders to head for the Central Colonies to receive their Type IV upgrade. Unlike other ships, the Atlantis had been mostly lucky, having other moderate damage that had been mostly patched up until now, but it still lacked a part of the crew. Hopefully, nothing bad was going to happen during their mission. A massive frequency of anomalies had been detected in the area, and they had been sent to investigate. Every last man of the crew was hoping that this was just a pulsar or something else. Because if they were the Invaders, the front would have to retreat to better positions once again.
The young Captain himself was really tired, having continuously fought for.. how long? He couldn't remember exactly. Cursed be the day when he had volunteered for die Koloniale Flotte. But of course, they each had to give their contributions to the war effort, after all. If he wouldn't have volunteered, he would have had been conscripted sooner of later. And now, even if only one year had passed, he had seen so much that he was considered one of the more veteran members of the Offizier Korps. He would have taken a little nap, but he, like most of the crew, was filled up with chemicals, the so called stimulants. So, no sleep for now.
Attention, unknown ships detected. Setting Condition One throughout the ship. This is not a drill.
The sensors of the Atlantis had just detected a few thousand ships jumping in the system. This could either be something they had never met before, or, an entire horde of Invaders. Strangely though, the DRADIS, the most basic sensor, was showing that the unknown ships were pretty chaotically arranged, none of the usual Invader formations. A little hesitant, Holland ordered his men to send a message first, instead of shooting, disobeying the 3456th Order of the O.K.F. But maybe, just maybe, they weren't Invaders.
Attention, the unknown ships in the system, this is the Colonial Military Ship Atlantis. Please identify yourselves or you will be considered hostile. I repeat, this is the Colonial Military Ship Atlantis. You have entered a space de facto under the rule of the Federated Colonies. Please identify yourselves or you will be considered hostile.
The message was firstly sent in Colonial Standard, then repeated in Galactic Standard and other galactic used languages. In the Atlantis, the Colonials were waiting to see if they had avoided a catastrophe or made a really bad move.

"C-Captain, s-s-someone... someone responded! There's someone out here!"
A panicked ensign called out to Captain Duvall, he was managing the communication systems, and had doubted the Captain's belief that they were travelling toward safety. Captain Duvall herself almost collapsed at the news, her body was just about ready to give up and rest for now, though with the help of her bridge crew she kept herself up, and ordered a number of S.O.S messages to be sent to the unknown ship. Duvall herself focused in transmitting the news about the ship to the rest of the Flotilla, overjoyed that her efforts had paid off in the end.
The Atlantis would soon find the massive mess of ships to be FTL jumping close to them, though at a distance so as to not chase off the ship. Desperate for safety, the Wakurans were reluctant to wait around much longer, and were jumping to the ship so that they could finally be safe. Duvall herself was forced to keep at the head of the Flotilla, despite wanting to hold off jumping until they got a response, for she needed to keep it under her command. Losing anybody wasn't an option for her.

Colonial Military Ship Atlantis(AT-20)
As the crew of the Atlantis was nervously waiting for a response, they suddenly started to receive S.O.S. messages, and ships started to jump near them, but as a far away distance in order not to seem aggressive. The crew waited for the captain's decision. This could be either an unknown race, requiring help after something happened, or, it could be just one of the many tricks of the Invaders, or the Abyssals as most of the non-human nations preferred to call them. After all, they were well known for being tricky and using ghost ships and other things like that to try to fool their enemies. Under normal circumstances, in such a situation, with unknown ships jumping so close to it, the Atlantis would have had to launch its fighters and fire some warning shots. The decision was hard, but if they weren't the Invaders, firing on unknown ships could have been a bad decision- as the decision of a Colonial turret commander had proven, back in the First Intergalactic War. Deciding to remain calm for now, Captain Holland ordered his crew to stay on Condition One, and have the fighters, the drones, the turrets and the shields ready, in case anything could go wrong. Calculations also started to be made in case the ship would have to suddenly jump away.
With the S.O.S. messages received, a message was sent back to the unknown fleet, in the same procedure, sent in multiple languages.
Attention, unknown ships, we have received your S.O.S. messages. If you need help, please identify yourselves and state the nature of your emergency. I repeat, this is the Colonial Military Ship Atlantis. We have received your S.O.S. messages. If you need help, please identify yourselves and state the nature of your emergency.

The Wakuran ships started showing up near the Atlantis, weapons powered down. They were clearly in a bad shape, and started sending more messages that were partly in Colonial, partly in Wakuran, so only vaguely explained their situation. Still, they were able to get the words "invaded" and refugees" in their messages, and they hoped that the Atlantis would figure out what they were trying to say.
Captain Duvall collapsed back into her chair on the bridge, holding her head in her hands. Finally, she ordered a tiny amount of food be brought to her, a request that was quickly fulfilled. Morale was on the rise with the Atlantis showing up, and she felt that she could finally rest for a while until they were ready to make physical contact with the Atlantis's crew. Eating her rations up hastily, she soon fell asleep, exhausted and drained. Her second-in-command, ViceCaptain Derrim Angau was to take over for now. She was too out of it.

As the unknown ships started to show up near the Atlantis, the Colonials were once again close to firing on them, stopped only by the calm of their captain. The turrets of the Atlantis still carefully observed the unknown ships, even if their weapons seemed to be down. You could never know what kind of nasty surprises unknown ships could have prepared. Those ships were clearly in a bad state though.
On board the Atlantis, the Colonials were trying to decipher the strange messages. A part of them was in Colonial Standard, but the rest was in an unknown message. The A.I. needed some time to analyze the messages and memorize the unknown language, so until then, they had to deal with what they could.
"Send a message to the Oberkommando. This is quite a strange situation we've got here.", Captain Holland ordered to one of his men, while looking at the unknown ships on the main terminal. A message was sent back to the strange ships, in two copies, one in Colonial Standard, and the other in a rough form of their language Kobol had been able to create until now.
To the unknown ships, we have received your messages, but we have problems understanding them. Were you invaded? Do you have refugees on board?

VC Angau was caught by surprise when a message came back in crude Wakuran. This was something that he was not expecting, but he was thankful for it as it made communications a little easier. He sent a reply to the Atlantis, both in Wakuran and crude Colonial:
"Atlantis, this is Vice Captain Angau of the WWF Crusade. Our planet has been invaded, and we are all that's left. We have many refugees, and supplies are running low. We will not survive much longer on our own, please help us."
Angau was certainly nervous. He wasn't a diplomat, or a smooth talker. It was Duvall who was always good at talking to people, but she was out of it. Steeling himself, he awaited a reply, hoping that this shred of hope could provide some assistance at least.

"Herr Kapitän, they say that their planet was invaded. They are apparently the only survivors, they have many refugees. Their supplies are running low, and they are requesting help.", one of the officers said. Holland remained quiet, thinking. "What does the Oberkommando say?",he asked. "They are going to send a fleet to this area, Herr Kapitän. We are advised to try to establish peaceful relations with these unknown ships and try to help them.", the communications officer asked. Holland sighed, before answering."Send a message back to the unknown ships.".
To Vice Captain Angau of the WWF Crusade, this is the Colonial Military Ship of the Federated Colonies, commanded by Captain Sven Holland of the Colonial Fleet. We are received your request of help. You are going to receive help and supplies for your refugees. As a war ship, the Atlantis doesn't have the capabilities to help you, but the High Command has been informed and they will send a fleet to us. Before that, could you please tell us who exactly attacked you?

"I'm afraid that we don't have many details on our attackers.. Great, powerful and Savage beings, they attacked in a massive tide of destruction. Whenever we lost ground, whatever was left behind became fuel for their warpath. I'm afraid we don't know much else beyond that... Thank you for the help."
This message was sent in Wakuran and Colonial, and the Vice Captain breathed a sigh of relief. He then sent an additional message to the Atlantis:
"We will do whatever we can to make ourselves useful to you,we owe you that much."

"We understand. Help will arrive shortly."
On the deck of the Atlantis, the Colonials started to be worried. Great, powerful and savage beings.... it could be the Invaders. There was no way to know for sure until they were going to check the records of these ships, but it seemed to match the usual Invader behavior. Even if they weren't the Invaders, and were some sort of a native alien race, with such an aggressive behavior, they could be a danger for the saftey of the Federated Colonies in the area.
Not much time later, civilian ships with supplies, and military medical ships started to jump in the system, with their characteristic white with red markings, ready to help.
"To the WWF Crusade, ships with supplies and medical personnel have arrived. Requesting permission to board."

As the medical ships started to show, the Flotilla spread out so as to make boarding easier. The largest ships prepared to receive supplies first; with more refugees on board, it was vital that they start receiving supplies immediately. A message was sent in Wakuran to the medical ships:
"This is the Crusade, granting permission to board. Our ships are lined up and ready to receive aid."
Angau let out a heavy sigh, "Looks like you did it, Captain... Guess you've earned that rest"
He then headed for the hangars,to greet some of the supply ships. Said hangars were protected by a passable energy field of sorts, that omitted the need for doors and allowed for refugees to be safely held in the hangars.

The Colonial supply ships soon started to send smaller transport ships in the hangars of the unknown ships, together with medical personnel. All the Colonials during this were wearing suits, and their characteristic white armbands with a red cross on. While the supplies were mostly the synthetic food used by the Colonial Armed Forces, since it was quickly and cheap to make, and had a distinct chemical flavor that could be sensed by people not used to it, it was food after all. Nothing too unusual. Once arrived, the Colonials started to give the supplies to the refugees, and hopefully with the approval of the unknown fleet's officials, started to scan their ships for any possible diseases and sorts.
Meanwhile, on board the Atlantis, orders from the Oberkommando were received, and a message was sent again to the WWF Crusade.
To the WWF Crusade, we would like to request permission to send a delegation to meet with your leaders in order to discuss what will happen from now.

The refugees are overjoyed at the presence of food, so much so that very few of them cared about its quality. After all, feeding several million starving refugees on such short notice was certainly no easy feat. The rescue ships are also granted permission to perform medical scans through the many ships. In the meantime, a message is sent back to the Atlantis by VC Angau:
"Atlantis, you have been given permission to send a party on board the Crusade. I and Captain Duvall will be meeting with you, as the highest ranking personell still standing."

Receiving the message from the Crusade, the crew of the Atlantis also decided to send the Captain, Sven Holland, and the second in command, Oberleutnant Sophie Krause. Since scans revealed that everything was alright with the unknown ships, at least for now, the small delegation decided to be sent in their usual dark blue uniforms, and not in any suits that could scare the unknown alien race.
About half an hour late, as most of the supplies had already been given to the refugees, the small delegation landed in the hangar of the WWF Crusade. Sven Holland, the Captain, had the classic appearance of a Colonial from the Central Colonies. Fairly young, at 25 years, he had a blonde and a little messy hair, going closer to a sand-like color. He was wearing the normal dark blue uniform of the Colonies, matching his dark blue eyes, with the red outlines and armband, showing that he was a part of the Colonial Fleet. Obersleutnant Sophia Krause had overall pretty similar features. She was also pretty young, at 24 years, part of the many Colonial young people who had volunteered at the start of the attack of the Invaders, being considered already veterans after such a short time. She had a lighter color of blonde though, and her blue eyes were also lighter. They were followed by two Colonial Star Guards, in their uniforms.
"Greetings, I am Sven Holland, the captain of the Colonial Military Ship Atlantis.", Captain Holland saluted, his words being translated in still a rough Wakuran, but improved from the one that had been firstly used by the Colonials. "Next to me is my second in command, Oberleutnant Sophia Krause. We are part of the Fleet of the Federated Colonies, the nation whose ships you have met."

The two Wakuran captains had travelled down to the hangars to greet the Colonials. Heading their own party was VC Angau; he was wearing a tan brown turtleneck, trousers and a sailor style hat atop his reddish brown hair, and was outfitted with a number of small medals on his sleeve. His demeanor was tidy and refined, blemished only by the burn marks on his uniform, and a rather fresh scar covered by bandages, rendering his left eye useless. Beside him was Captain Duvall, looking to be in a far worse state than Angau; she wore the same uniform, and carried a few badges more than he, though her uniform was messier and unkempt, tears and marks across it. Her vivid red hair was messy too,and her eyes were struggling to stay open. Still, despite her exhaustion, she remained with the group. Behind the two was a single guard, wearing an faint blue armoured variant of the uniform and carrying a small plasma based firearm.
Angau spoke up on Duvall's behalf:
"Welcome to the Crusade, our saviours. We are thankful for your efforts to keep our shattered population alive, and we will offer whatever assistance we can for this enormous debt of gratitude we owe you."
Duvall then spoke a few words, before being quietened by Angau:
"We're crippled...... But not defeated."
"Please, Captain. Your health is dire and I insist that you let me handle negotiatons. Forgive us, sir and madam, but Duvall isn't in too great a shape. This whole event has weighed heavily on her, more than many of us, and she insists on meeting you."
