Being the first target for the Swarm Queen was, in a way unexpected for the Acruani. They even had purposefully spread their ships into 10 spheric formations since the beginning of the battle merely to avoid such event. In the end, an effort made to naught, sadly. At the very beginning, even though it was quite chaotic it seemed possible for the Acruani to defend against the onslaught, but the intessity of the attacks was something beyond their abilities to shoot down incoming projectiles as well as swapping places which less damaged Acruani ships. Regardless, even while being less effective, the defensive formations didn't break. They may have lost clearly over 30% of the more external capital ships in each of them, but their objective to protect the core of their formation was secure enough with only 'minimal' damage being done to the Hive Queen within.
Strangely as if the Acruani have taken note of the sacrifices made by the Colonials to increase, by the time the Swarm Queen began firing at the Colonials, two Acruani formations that were flanking the Colonials advanced, to remain in between the Swarm Queen and part of the Colonial Forces. Unlike the other formations that seemed to merely move faster and shoot missiles down, allowing whatever they could just enter the formation to miss any vital target in it, the ships in the formation seemed to converge at the Invader side of the formation. Most of them kept their shields to the maximum for as long as they could while destroying whatever projectiles they could before being destroyed, and it didn't take long to be destroying while taking so much fire from the Swarm Queen.
By the time the Swarm Queen stopped firing, the two formations were nearly destroyed, only surviving because each ship destroyed only helped making a debris field in front of them, which was also nearly made into powder.
While the Acruani were, surprised due to the lack of better word, at the appearance of the ships, they seemed to do little considering that the ship's preliminary IFFs. They assumed it was in the least more reinforcements, and just considering their models, probably Colonial reinforcements. The great length of the ships and their strong armament, specially those ion cannons.
As the shields of the Swarm Queen went down, there was a clear change in the Acruani formations. While usually, visuals would show every single Acruani ship covered by a faint blue shield, giving the formations some blue luminescence, the shields all seemed to begin to go down. It was simply the effect of hundreds of thousands diverting all their power to their lasers. From the 8 formations, countless laser beams fired focused at almost a dozen spots on the Swarm Queen's hull, and as the beams began to weaken another wave of beams was fired by yet more ships in the formation. The process kept going until 10 groups of purple beams were fired from the center of the formations. Those were the Hyperion cannons firing in their matter destruction mode, considering the absence of shields. While those lasers were made to fire with a certain frequency, this surely would be the last time they would be firing today. That Swarm Queen had to be destroyed.
