"Unfortunately, no, I have no idea what she could be.", the Colonial pilot said, relaxing. "It's true that the Colonies have been exploring the galaxy for a long time, but at least at the moment I connected to the ColDNet the last time, nothing like them had been discovered. Not even we can know all races in this huge galaxy."
More out of a reflex, the red eyed human took out a small package, extracting what looked like a green cigarette out of it, twisting it's end, and putting it in his mouth afterwards, seemingly smoking it like a real cigarette. It was just one of the many little inventions of the Science Division. Faced with a lack of tobacco, and searching for a way to easily give vitamins and other good substances to their population, the Colonies came out with a large variety of small, cigarette like things, pretty popular through the entirety of the Milky Way. You simply took one, twisted its end, right around the yellow ring, and it safely sparked inside. No smoke, no dependence, only a slight chemical smell, various aromas, and vitamins. This one as an example was a mint one.
"Maybe if we can make her speak somehow, I can record it, and I can see what my fighter's AI can say us about that.", the Colonial pilot said.

"Hmmm," Kate said. "Not a bad idea. Of course, an electronic translator would be ideal."
"Your idea is good pilot, and may be an important step. But I have a proposal," Miller said suddenly. "The Captain uses a translation device when we make sales to Andromeda aliens. There is no such thing as word truly. Only sounds, broken up in different ways to convey meaning. That's the princpile our translator operates on anyway. Works most of the time, though not always. Even when we only get a few words, it always give us something. I'll get it."
Miller departed then departed briefly, returned, and held the translation device to his mouth. He then spoke into it, hoping the alien would understand the cue. Once this was done he held it forward, and made motion near his throat and mouth with his free hand.

The Wakuran observed the device, having wrapped herself in the warm fabrics and eaten most of the nutrition bar already. She spoke at the device, stating her rank of Ensign, that she was a Wakuran and that she was the survivor of a war.

"Wakuran ensign, something about surviving a war. Let's see if we can say something back." Miller then held the device to Kate and said, "Say anything. It'll translate your words based on patterns in what she said to us."
"I'm Dr Katelyn Henry, but you can call me Kate. What's a Wakuran? And are you injured? And what is your name?" As the device slowly translated her words, Kate unwrapped another bar of nutrients and handed it to the alien.

She took a few moments to remove her breathing mask and eat the second bar, before referring to herself as Ensign Wirret. She also stated that she was unharmed, and gave a crude description of her race's former state, adding that they had recently been wiped out in a war.

"Ensign Wirret. A pleasure," Kate said. "And very tragic what happened to your race. Our civilisation is having trouble with the Invaders as well. We'll help you however we can." After a bit more waiting, the translation device spoke the new phrase.
Miller then looked at the Colonial officer and asked, "Are the Colonies doing anything with the Wakurans, now that we know what race the girl is? And feel free to jump in on the conversation with her."

Ensign Wirret saluted to the group shakily, braving a stern look.
"Thank you.. Though there's nothing to be done now. I have to put it behind me now,and find something to do with my life. If you would have me, I wouldn't say no to serving on your ship. I'm sure I wouldn't need long to figure everything out.

"I'll have to discuss your long term assignment with the captain. Hopefully she'll let you join, which I expect she will," Kate said. "Miller, you can come with me. Hopefully I don't need your help to convince her, but it will be good to have you along." She then handed the translation device to the Colonial officer and said, "Keep this, and feel free to speak with Ensign Wirret. I'll be right back."
With that, the two Confederate spacers left, leaving Wirret and Naskrent alone in the cargo hold.

In the middle of the conversation between the Confederates and the alien girl calling herself a Wakuran, the Colonial pilot's attention was suddenly attracted by a message his fighter had just received. Putting a little headphone like instrument in his right ear, he listened to it.
The message luckily ended right in time, as the pilot's attention was attracted by the translator device the Confederate had thrown at him, and after shortly realizing how to use, decided to speak to the Wakuran.
"So, Ensign Wirret, I'm Lieutenant Wilhelm Naskrent. My nation, the Federated Colonies, seem to have made contact with a fleet of your people that had managed to escape. They're currently helped by my people, and they're seemingly trying to find more of their own that had survived, like you.", the red eyed pilot said using the translator.

Wirret's eyes lit up at the good news, hearing that the fleet had survived the war and was safe.
"R-really? That's great news! I remember that fleet escaping with Captain Endiro heading it, I was on one of the frigates defending its escape. Though I think I might stay here if this crew takes me on. I'll try to let them know I'm still kicking, and maybe I'll be able to find other lost Wakurans in places where the fleet can't reach."

A short while later, Miller and Kate returned, followed by the captain. She was dressed in dark grey refrigeration armour, most of her body and her face covered. She hoped she wouldn't look too intimidating to Ensign Wirret. After retrieving the translation device, she said in a tone that she hoped was warm through the voice modulator in her armour, "Ensign Wirret. Welcome. I am Nyla Tallahn, captain of this vessel. Don't be alarmed by my appearance. I'm Dothvalian, and my body requires extremely cold temperatures to thrive. Hence e refrigeration armour. Cold as you may feel, this is far warmer than I like to keep the ship. Not to worry though. As soon as we get you proper clothing, I can return the environment to normal, and you'll have a proper look at me. We'll be glad to have you aboard, and I'm sure you possess useful skills. Assuming you'd like to stay, I'll proceed with more formal introductions. Also, the hyperdrive has recharged, so we can return to the Confederacy and get you outfitted and supplied properly. But if you'd prefer to go to your own people with the Colonial pilot, I wouldn't hold it against you."

Wirret saluted to the Captain as she made her offer, her mood certainly lightened with the good news given to her.
"I would love to serve on your ship, Captain. As tempting as it is to return to the fleet, I don't exactly have anything there to look forward to, and I would likely end up on a ship anyways... By the way, what do we do with my ship? It's pretty beat up, though I imagine it could have something of value still."

"It could be very useful with the proper repairs," said Tallahn. "I'm not exactly certain how yet, but a small ship always has uses. I think you'll like it here. Constant movement and travel. But first, we'll have to return to Triangulum, get you new equipment, as well as make a few changes to my ship."
She then turned to the Colonial officer and said, "I'd appreciate it if you could inform the Wakuran fleet about us." Fearing the fleet would want Wirret back, Tallahn added, "And there's no need to mention Ensign Wirret. Simply offer them our services. We're willing to do most any sort of civilian work they require, as well as small scale mercenary activities. The same offer goes for the Colonials, if you're interested."
Miller suddenly asked Wirret, "What sort of weapons are you used to? Arms dealers as we are, that's the one sort of equipment we can give you right away."

"Weapons... Oh. I've recieved basic infantry and technician training before my assignment to naval school, so I've experience with the standard Wakuran infantry rifle and sidearm." She picked up her plasma rifle, resembling an elongated H&K MP5k, with a semi-automatic firing mechanism and a long barrel, without a grip. "I suppose those skills are transferable to weapons of similar design and function."

"Alright. Your presence here helped me, and it doesn't seem like Ensign Wirret wants to return to her people, so I won't mention anything.I'll inform the Admiral and the Wakuran fleet about your offer.". With that, the Colonial pilot put his helmet back."Well, I'll have to return to the Konigsberg. Be careful around this area, it's possible that this sector has been compromised, and the Kriegsflotte is stretched too thin to guard all the system. The front is being pushed back, and you could get caught in the battles. Who knows, maybe we'll meet again."
Finishing his goodbye, the Colonial pilot returned to his fighter and left the larger ship, and started to calculate his destination. A couple of minutes later, he jumped out of the system, trying to return to the Colonial position and the Colonial Military Ship Konigsberg.
