Behold and weep, the Milky Way! Birthplace of the proud and unconquerable human race, and cradle to numerous great civilizations throughout the history of the universe. This great beacon of light has attracted settlers far and wide, all of whom hope to carve out a living and take a share of the profit that the Milky Way has to offer. At least, that is how it used to be. At the eve of the second Intergalactic War, the denizens of the Milky Way have grown weak, their armies shattered, their worlds ruined. It is this weakness that has drawn the attention of perhaps the most feared menace in the universe. The Abyssals. The nightmarish creatures who hail from the blackness between galaxies, from the abyss itself.
Their arrival has marked a new age of struggle for the inhabitants of the Milky Way. Humans, once populating the entirety of the galaxy, now struggle to hold on to their last bastions in the center of it. Multiple alien races, such as the Eldari, find themselves surrounded by foes on all sides. Tiny colonies can only brace themselves as waves of Abyssal fleets wash over their planets, hoping that perhaps their small settlements are ignored. Closer and closer, the Abyssals creep from the edges of the galaxy towards the center, leaving death and destruction in their wake. The Milky Way has turned into a warzone, and the once shining beacon it was has begun to dim.
But hope is not lost, there are still men willing to fight, men with fury and passion burning in their hearts. Will this be enough, though? Will the efforts of countless civilizations be enough to defeat the Abyssal threat? Or will millions of years of technology, development, culture, and knowledge be lost at the hands of the enemy? Only time will tell.
