Looking at the cylinder, Rafael identified it as a flash-bang grenade, an ancient device used back in the days of ballistic weapons and ground warfare when humans only resided in Terra. Well, some things never change. Nodding as he placed it into a pouch, Rafael placed his hand on Ahuna's cheek as he gave it a stroke.
"Many thanks. I'm sure I would not be a burden to you. Lead the way Ahuna, let our hunt begin." Rafael said with a wink.

In the orbit
As the Drathian ships started to descend, the five Invader bases remained with their focus on the Drathian ships, their two sides rotating along their central axis while they also started to descend, continuing the fight, and not leaving the Drathian ships a moment of quiet, continuing their aggressive attack. But the moves of the Drathians had unfortunately made something pretty, pretty bad. They attracted the attention of the black base.
As the black base suddenly came back to life, a dark corrupted influence started to spread through the system. Something, really powerful. The influence of a Black Marker, a Marker that was a part of the High Council. Quietly but violently, the Black Marker used its influence to attack and try to corrupt the Mind Flowers, while extending its influence, clearly also targeting the planet, trying to help its servants. In the same time, the Drathians and the Eldari would start to feel those already characteristic hallucinations and strange states provoked by the Red Markers once, but this one was no mere Red Marker.
As the Black Marker continued its violent assault, the black base itself approached the planet, and started to shoot the already known Invader capsules, sending reinforcements.
On the planet
Meanwhile, the Invaders also consolidated their position, after the space planet projectiles hit them, killing off some of them. They may have been dead Invaders now, but they were once Colonial soldiers. Exactly how much from that life they still did remember was up to debate, but they started to apply the Colonial ground tactics. A still pretty primitive trench had been done, as the Invaders started to dig in. More and more heavy machine guns were being mounted, keeping the Drathians under a continuous suppressive fire. Elite snipers started to appear, using the cover to make clean hits on the enemies. Mortars were being mounted, and artillery fire started to hit the Drathians, from usual explosive shells to white phosphorus ones, making quite a damage. In the back, a similar thing was happening, as the beasts were being killed one by one, allowing the Invaders to send more forces to face the Drathians.
As the other natives started to attack the Invaders, riding on top their insects, they successfully managed to attract their attention. As the dead things they were, the Invaders weren't necessarily affected by the pain that acid would have provoked to other species, but they still lost a few people because of that. In order to fight them back, snipers started to shoot at the natives, taking them down one by one.
Sigma, seeing that the Drathian commander was drawing her closer to his lines, Sigma stopped. Right then, all the Invaders started to feel the power of the Black Marker flowing through them. Their eyes turned to black, a glowing, dark black, and even Sigma's eyes turned to a more darker shade of pink, as black markings appeared on her skin, on her arms, and on her face. The dead once again started to rise as Invaders. The Drathians might have had Mind Flowers, but they were far away, in the orbit, while a High Invader was here, on the ground. Dead, white, with dark glowing eyes, and tentacles instead of their missing members, the dead rose, Drathians, beasts, and natives alike, causing as much chaos as possible among the enemy lines. Sigma now looked angrily at the Drathian commander.
"You are quite strong, I must admit that. But playing time is over.", as Sigma said that, the white thorns bit even deeper in her skin, drinking in more blood. All around the Drathian commander, white chains, similar to those used by Omega, appeared from the ground, trying to bind him and restrain his moves. While he was busy protecting himself from the chains, Sigma leaped forward, stopping right next to him, and hitting him with her sword, using a force that would have been enough to destroy a tank. No matter how strong the guy was, having an High Invader as powerful as Sigma hitting him like that was greatly reducing his survival chances, if he had any.

The snipers would likely have a hard time eliminating many of the Vinecrawlers, for even when mounted upon insects they were well hidden, and skilled in concealment. They began to relocate and launch occasional shots down toward the Invaders. A few noted Sigma's presence on the battlefield, and believing her to be a commander of sorts, they began to fire shots down on her from their hiding places.
Down on the ground, a number of Vinecrawlers started to pick up discarded Drathian weapons, hoping that they could put some of them to use against the Invaders. As for the Bloodbeaks, most of them had been taken out from above, though one scarred and bloodied individual was still standing. He couldn't safely reach the Vinecrawlers above, lest he be gunned down, so he turned his attention toward the Drathian lines, letting out a shrill cry before grabbing the nearest pair of Invaders, intent on dragging them off into the jungle to try and flank the Drathians.
-------------------------------------
Close to the battlefield, a lumbering giant had stirred, attracted by the large scale battle occurring. Walking on four legs, mand covered in bone-like plates, the beast was huge, so much so that it could easily tower over the rees should it stand upright. Unlike most creatures of Endovul II, it did notnhave any camouflage, for it did not need it. It was also rather slow, though could speed up into a sprint for a short time, smashing anything in its path with its six large horns. Unfortunately for the battlefield, it began windig up for a sprint, for it smelled many smells, all rather meaty and delicious-smelling. And it was hungry.
The obsevant on the battlefield might hear its rumbling footsteps as it began to approach.
---------------------
Ahana took Rafael's hand gingerly, leading the Jupiterran away into the jungle to hunt. They left quietly, so as to not draw attention, though a solitary figure followed them out, staying far back enough that it wouldn't be detected.
As they travelled, Rafael might notice the smell of flowers constantly lingering, most likely emitting from Ahuna, though she made no comments during their journey thus far, staying quiet and alert.

Ahuna could move. Rafael hardly saw anyone with such a moving style. She could arc like a gymnast, leap with power and land with such grace that the branches were hardly disturbed. A contract from him who carried multiple weapons along with his pouch. His movement was silent, but not Sein'Hae silent. No Jupiterran, Rafael was certain, could move like that.
When they came to a stop point, Rafael leaned in close to Ahuna as he offered her a drink of water. It was then that he realised that there's a sweet smell, a scent, coming from Ahuna.
A scent for a hunt? Rafael thought. Such smells usually attract predators... surely Ahuna has a good reason for that.
"Hey, Ahuna." Rafael whispered into her ear. "You seem to... smell good... what's with the flower scent?"

She declined water for now, as she had hydrated herself well before the hunt, though she happily answered his question.
"This is the scent of a Vori flower, known even amongst beasts for being deadly to consume. Though, we're the only ones who use it to ward off predators, save for a few herbivores that use it too. Look, we're here now. A nest of Wairan."
She gestured toward a cave nearby, surrounded by about six small shelled creatures, insect-like in their appearance. They were rather small, and would make a great practice run for the two would-be hunters.

"Alright... Let's do this." Rafael said as he patted Ahuna's shoulder, silently crawling down a tree as not to put too much pressure on his foot. On the ground, Rafael considered picking out half with his rifle, but decided against it. This was a Hunt, a ritual where two people, a male and a female, would work together to take down a prey. Using a rifle against them doesn't seem fair, not like this.
Instead, Rafael drew his plasma weapon, keeping it's power low as he crept over. Igniting the weapon at full power would extend it's reach to almost a meter, good for spearing and thrusting. When he got close enough, Rafael could see the silhouette of Ahuna, ready to pounce.
"Alright." He breathed. One... Two... Now!
Bursting from the bushes Rafael pushed the power projector to it's maximum, spearing a Wairan through it's shell, the plasma unyielding against most natural materials. Another swing disabled the second Wairan, which was finished off with a thrust. The last one, quite a distance away, and Rafael wanted to show Ahuna a little of his gadgets, fired a stunning shot at the creature, before walking over and impaling it.
His half done, Rafael looked over to see how Ahuna was doing.

Ahuna was equally efficient in her attacks, immediately pouncing to spear one through the side, where a weak point in its shell was located. Hefting the spear to the side, she used the. corpse to slam another one to the ground. The third she turned her attention to, evading its sharp pincers and stabbing it in the face, sending it toppling down. She then turned and launched her spear at the third as it got back up, impaling it through the back of the head. And with that, their little hunt was a success.

Nodding in appreciation of her skills, Rafael walked over to Ahuna as he prepared to gather the corpses.
"So, we're gathering the corpses? I saw some of your tribe doing the same, although... I'm not too sure which are the important parts..."
Shifting around, Rafael suddenly remembered something, as he mentally slapped himself for being so forgetful.
Moving close to Ahuna, Rafael gave her his signature pat on the cheek as he smiled. "That's some nice moves you have there. I'm glad to have you as a partner, on our first successful hunt."

"I am glad to have you hunt with me too, Rafael..."
She spoke with a bright smile, a rarity for her, before she turned her attention to the kills.
"These are a tricky case to eat, but we're going to want to tak- ah!"
Ahuna jumped as she felt a sharp pain in her neck, but before she could react she collapsed into unconciousness. A close inspection reveals some form of dart in the back of her neck, yet its shooter remains hidden for now.

"Ahuna... Ahuna!" Rafael cried out as she collapsed into his arms. Seeing the dart, Rafael quickly pulled it out, but was sure that it contained some poison. Cursing himself for leaving his medical pack in the village, he only carried light antiseptics and bandages for non-serious wounds. Drawing out his rifle, Rafael did a light scan of the area, checking for any odd shapes or movement. His sharp senses honed by his subconsciousness, Rafael held Ahuna by her waist as he slowly stepped into the bush.
"Charlie One, this is Rafael. Ahuna and I are several klicks from the village, bearing West. We are under attack by some unknown, presumably able to use arms. Ahuna is incapacitated. Request immediate reinforcement."
He would get her back to the village quickly. There's no way they would not make it back. Rafael held Ahuna tightly, never loosening his grip, as he slowly made his way back to the village, certain that there are eyes stalking him even now.

The figure followed him back to the village, once again at a distance, keeping itself hidden from Rafael. Whatever it was, it wasn't going to attack just yet. As he made it back to the village, the figure stopped following, vanishing into the village itself. Whoever it was, it was amongst the Sein'Hae, though no-one was aware of their identity.
Upon reaching the village, the partygoers stir as Rafael emerged with Ahuna. Their medical experts quickly rushed over to take Ahuna off Rafael and figure out her injuries. As for Rafael, a few hunters blocked him off to lead him aside, so they could ask what happened. He'd be taken to a small hut for this interrogation.
Ahuna was being looked after, the dart mark being found quickly by the Sein'Hae. They soon discovered it to be a sleeping serum, intended to make her sleep for a long while, and so all they could do for her was let her rest. Naturally, the party was soured, and so people were soon returning to their duties, the lesser tribes returning to their villages, not wanting to be a part of the whole mess.

"We... we were hunting..." Rafael muttered as he spoke in the hut, facing the other hunters. Rafael himself was anxious about the fate of Ahuna, and realised that the responsibility of what happened to her would be on his shoulders. Well, as an alien who stumbled into this world and creating such a mess with one of the natives, Rafael knew that any judgement would be justified.
"We were hunting, we killed some Wairans, and just as we were about the gather them, Ahuna was hit. I could not see who the attacker was, it all happened too quickly."
He was nervous. Of course he was. Ahuna, the first girl to whom he harboured true feelings, was now hurt because of his selfish desires. The other tribes left too, and surely, the souring of the party was the worst. His comrades gave him assuring looks as they secured the outside of the hut. They would not let anyone who hurt Ahuna hurt Rafael too.

In Orbit The crew of the Drathian Murderer watched in horror as the Invader's new black ship began to mobilize, sending more reinforcements to the ground. While they knew the Drathians down there could handle themselves, they needed to stop that thing from destroying their friends above. Xikcha sighed in frusturation. Damn him, giving his life for the Fylkirate. He pointed forward, speaking loudly with a voice unshaken by fear, even as the shadows of madness began to swarm the back of his vision. "Full speed ahead towards that ship! Focus all fire on those landing craft! Do not let them get to the surface!" The Murderer, damaged as it was, began to fire at the Invader landing craft, hopefully taking out a few before they could get to the surface. The ship itself though, went towards the black base.
It tried to latch onto the bottom of the ship, hanging on with its teeth and claws in a desperate gamble to turn the tide of the battle. Xikcha winced as another weapon impact rocked his ship. They wouldn't last much longer. He turned to an ensign, who saluted him shakily. The boys eyes were wild with madness, a result of the black marker. His hand was visibly shaking, as if he could barely make it to stand. "Are the FTL drives ready yet!?" Xikcha demanded. His subordinate nodded. "Good."
The Iron IIs were surrounded, taking fire from all sides. The Invaders seemingly decided it would not be in their best interest to let the ships escape. Luckily, the Iron IIs were much more durable than the Murderer, with stronger shields and plating, if at the expense of mobility. They both focused all fire on a single Invader Base, hoping that their combined salvos of torpedoes and batteries would be enough to break the circle and allow them to begin retreating. High Command, though, seemed not to leave anything to chance. Two more Murderers, previously stationed at the Trifexian System, came into orbit. They both opened fire on the ring of Invader bases, trying to distract them long enough to give the Iron IIs a chance to escape.
Planetside Meanwhile, on the ground, things were not as fortunate. No reinforcements were coming, it would seem. The Drathians, though, were not so easily beaten. They had been born for forest combat. They thrived in it, their very civilization only existed because of their proficiency in the woods, much to the woe of the Keltakens. They had beaten their ancient foes with spears and slings, and this time, they had guns and bombs. Many Invader snipers found themselves missing their shots, and falling under counter fire from Drathian snipers, who did not have the disadvantage of having pale white skin that would give away their location. Theirs was green, and as such, perfectly blended in with their surroundings.
The rest of the troops found, though, the devesation of artillery firing on their positions. Luckily for them, they were still under the cover of the forest, and the enemy shells oft got themselves snagged in branches, or simply inaccurate. Still, the Drathians took losses, but those losses were countered by the relief fire granted by their new Sein'Hae allies. They dared not advance, especially now that the enemy was diggin in, instead they began preparing their defenses, namely in the form of deployable energy shields that would offer some protection against the enemy artillery barrage.
Commander Krix, however, was in a sour spot. He was forced to leap backwards, wincing as one of the chains scrapped against his thigh. His armour took the brunt of the blow, but it left a large gash in the plating. He just managed to avoid Sigma's sure death blow, landing now ever closer to the Drathian line. With a pant, he straighetned himself, swinging his staff experimentally in the air. "You sure do mouth off a lot for a commander. I wonder, do you have any skill at all? You seem to be depending solely on the powers that your markers are granting you." He crouched, grinning. "And even then, you can't kill me." It was an obvious taunt, directed at what he hoped was Sigma's superiority complex, if she had one. It might send her in a reckless rage that would bring her directly into the Drathian line of fire. Otherwise, he was just being a dick.
Still, Krix was no fool. If Sigma did get angry with him, the resulting flurry of blows would be too much for him to handle, especially in his tired state. "Activate stim level 1." He said, seemingly to himself. Within his armour, needles injected themselves into his shoulders, pumping his body full of a syrum that would enhance his ability for a few minutes. It was a potent chemical, which had the potential to kill its user. That's why it was only given to commanders such as Krix.

Thankfully for Rafael, no accusing fingers were pointed at him. The hunters with him were soon informed by a healer from outside about Ahuna's state. In response, one of the hunters spoke up:
"Worry not, Rafael. Nobody would believe us if we accused you. No, it ia far more likely that another tribe intended to sabotage your hunt. Ahuna is the chief's niece, and so it would not surprise me if hunters from other tribes are now setting their eyes on her as a way of gaining power in the tribe. Please, you should go see her, calm yourself down a bit. Well soon get to the bottom of this."
And with that, Rafael was allowed to leave a free man, even receiving condolences from villagers that someone had the audacity to interrupt a bonding hunt.

Rafael was surprised at the attitude of the tribesmen. After all, he did create the opening for Ahuna to get wounded. While sabotage was a possibility, Rafael believed that it would be best to leave such matters to the natives, as he went to where Ahuna was.
She was sleeping. The effects of the drug managed to knock her out good. Regardless, Rafael held her hand as he rested on a chair next to the bed. As he the slow rising of her chest as she breathed, Rafael brushed some strands of hair away from Ahuna's face, revealing her features as he took in her beauty. Not the prettiest being out there, but lovely and beautiful in her own right.
Again, Rafael interlocked his fingers with hers as he rested, seeming to sleep off the drug which he took, prepared for a painful bruise on his ankle the next day.
