First and foremost, welcome to space! You have evolved beyond the mud slinging terrestrial lifeforms you began as, and are now in charge of your very own space capable nation! Hooray! However, before you begin your journey through the cosmos, there are a few things that you really should know. This guide will help you prepare for your space adventure in order to ensure you do not piss off your interstellar neighbours. That's right. It's a rule book! And you better read it, buster!
Threads:
Ah yes, the first thing you'll notice is that this is indeed a forum based roleplay. That means that instead of moving your avatar around the game world, or telling the DM what bar wench you're going to eye next, you (and your nation) will roleplay on the plethora of threads that are available for use! But, some of you may ask, how do threads work? Well I was getting to that! Shut up and listen!
Now then, threads are essentially roleplay 'instances', each one tells its own story which may or may not be linked to another. You as a player are not limited in how many threads you can post on. However, make sure that you don't get in over your head. If you post in Andromeda while you are stationed in Triangulum, getting your ships from point A to point B will take more than just a post. Please make an effort to be aware of what your nation does, and how realistic it is. Aside from distance, however, threads may also be more character focused, or have different main events going on within them.
I'd like to point to this thread, here. -----> tfeod.freeforums.net/thread/22/search-old-archive
This thread is one that is character focused, and while it does not have a proper tag (more on that later), it is about the player's characters traversing through a specific area. If one were to join this thread, they wouldn't be roleplaying an entire fleet, which would be rather out of place. Just as well, they wouldn't be roleplaying a character three solar systems away doing their own thing, as it it derails the thread and takes away from the main story it is trying to tell. This is not to say there can't be other locations in the same thread, just that they need to in some way or another support the story that is being told.
When you name your thread, make sure it is something that players can instantly look at, and know what the general situation is. Don't name your thread something inconspicious or confusion. A thread about a war between nations shouldn't be named something such that doesn't give any sort of indication of what the thread entails.
Examples:
BAD - "Chiming Bells"
GOOD - "Royal Marriage"
BETTER - "The Nation-1 Royal Marriage"
If you notice something about these names, it's that none of them have any sort of tag on them. How are we supposed to know who can join and who can't? Should we post only IC responses or OOC ones? Tagging your thread is important, and it signifies what is and is not allowed in your roleplay. Here is a list of tags that you can use.
[IC] = This is an In-Character thread, people roleplay here.
[OOC] = This is an Out-Of-Character thread. People will usually discuss the roleplay that it corresponds to here. These are not needed for smaller roleplays, but if things get very large and crowded, it is best to set up an OOC. Around ten pages is the magic number for making an OOC thread.
[OPEN] = Anyone is able to join in. There is no application proccess required and players may freely hop in the roleplay whenever they want.
[SEMI-OPEN] = Anyone is able to join, however, before doing so, it is best for the eager roleplayer to private message the OP to make sure that they are welcome in the roleplay.
[CLOSED] = Only those who are invited may join the roleplay. The OP, or someone designated by the OP, will make sure that whoever they feel should be involved in the roleplay gets and invitation. This could be in the form of a chat message or other form of communication.
An example of an optimal thread title would be something like this: "The Nation-1 Royal Marriage [IC/CLOSED]"
Mind you, the bolding is not neccessary.
