Somewhere in the Triangulum galaxy, the Kirdoni have made unofficial inroads. Not that the Confeds would have noticed it. The Kragon Corporation, a corporation that exports weapons of war to good buyers who pay a good price. The Delieggen are the perfect recipients of thse weapons...
Several Iosif Stalin Class Battleships docked in the Delieggen homeworld, along with the mass-produced Sherman class cruisers and the specialized Tiger class battlecarriers. By the way, heres a brief explanation of these ships -
The Iosif Stalin Class, or most of the time just called "IS" for short, are the heavy hitting juggernauts of the Kirdoni forces, whether it be the government navy or a corporation's private force. They have very good armor angling, which often harmlessly deflect kinetic projectiles, whether it be rail gun shells, missiles, torpedoes, or auto-cannons. Up to 60% to 70% of kinetic projectiles that are sent towards their angled slopped armor are deflected and thrown back to the enemy. In addition, their armor is made of a metal that is found in abundant quantities in the Kirdoni territories but very rare in other place; Stalinium, the most reflective metal known to man. Only IS and Tiger class ships use this metal, as it is difficult to smelt and refine. The IS doesn't have really thick armor, but its angled armor greatly increases its survival chances. Their shields just allow kinetic projectiles to pass through while stopping energy beams. The same applies to Tiger class ships.
The Shermans are the cannon fodder and main line of the Kirdoni. They are mass produced and built mostly from veranium, just like most other ships in the Intergalactic Alliance. Their armor is similar to a light Colonial battlestar, but they are much smaller and much easier to build and maintain. They require no crews except for an AI module.
Its been years since the Kargon Corporation made contact with the Delieggen. The Delieggen have proven to be useful clients due to their hatred towards the Confederacy. They have been buying weapons from Kargon for years, and the Commonwealth government is beginning to suspect that the corporation is doing something shadowy, due to getting weapons from back and forth Triangulum and Magellanic Cloud 2, and have somehow haven't attracted Confederate attention. But some of Kargon's members have been beginning to be uneasy about their CEO's actions...

Meanwhile on Kaarlazen, one of the Shadow Masters was sending a message updating their sponsors.
He said evenly, "To our suppliers at Kragon, your equipment is deeply appreciated. It is about to be put to use, and the battle will be broadcast to you. We have chosen a special mission of the Confederate government to test our capabilities. I'll leave you to the video."
His face was hidden in shadow during this transmission.
As for the attack group mentioned, they exited hyperspace into a nebula. There were several Confederate science vessels, as well as a pair of Harrower-class Destroyers from the Confederate Navy. The leader of the Delieggen attack group opened a channel with the Confederate vessels, and said evenly, "Hello, Operation Starlight Scientific Mission. This is Phantom Seven of Imperial Intelligence. You've been identified as harbouring enemies of the state, and you are to be terminated immediately."
Then they opened fire on the science vessels, causing heavy damage in a matter of moments. However, the escorts weren't convinced so easily.
As the other scientific ships raced to defend themselves, Ensign Edward Lars, the escort commander on the destroyer DCS Defiant said to a subordinate, "Something isn't right about this. Intelligence mah be brutal, but they've never murdered like this. Maybe they do, but why the hell would they kill an enemy of the state like this. Real agents are more careful and not so ham fisted. Contact Ensign Thompson on the other destroyer, and tell him I think as much. We have an obligation to defend these scientists."
With that, the two destroyers powered weapons, and opened fire with their main laser batteries. They were resisted by potent shielding, so the officers put additional power into the weapon systems. Every now and then there was a breach in the shields of the enemy vessels. The Confederate ships could perfectly see their armour, and what it looked like. Instead of Confederate trisilviate or Colonial varanium, it was something else. Nothing like the durasteel from the Terror Wars, so EOH was ruled out. And had the escorts not been distracted by the battle, they would have remembered Confederate history, and an ancient enemy. They would have noticed the grey skin and the darkened irises, as well as the distortion of the very air by intense and close body temperature. But it wasn't to be. The Delieggen assault force, who had been toying with the escorts, decided to finish them off. The distress signals went unheard, blocked by the nebula. Shortly after, salvagers descended on the wreckage, determined to bring Confederate technology back to Kaarlazen.
And on the Delieggen home world, the Shadow Master smiled. He said happily, "Your ships have performed well. We'll continue to arm the Ascendancy through Kragon." Now the Councillor waited to see what the corporation had thought of Delieggen methodology.

"Hmmm.", the CEO's erie, arachnid voice lingered through the reciever. "Underhanded tactics and impersonation? That is what I like most for a war plan."
Just then, he was interrupted by a corporation officer on the door.
'Sir, a Commonwealth ship has warped in. It seems that the government wants a bit of investigation."
"What type is it?"
"Most probably Sherman class, but also possibly Panther class."
"Invite them down here and then... you know what to do. Blow em up and make sure none escape to tell the tale."
"Yes sir."
as soon he was out of the room, the Kirdoni CEO turned back to the screen.
"Now, where was I?"

"I'm glad you approve of our tactics," the man in the shadows said. "Our races aren't so different. And perhaps we could return the service you've done us. You're concerned about government investigators. Once they're out of the way, we can throw the Commonwealth off your tracks, impersonate the investigators and say we found nothing. And our infiltrators stay, keep the Commonwealth from ever catching on to what really happens inside your company."
Meanwhile, the attack force, led by Lieutenant Nicolaas Sibren, prepared to depart the system.
"And what spoils have we gained from this battle?" Sibren asked.
""A great deal sir," a subordinate replied. "The scientists are all dead, but most of their computer files survived the battle. Nothing much useful, but a few interesting notes here and there. And we could probably reverse engineer their equipment. Plus we spilled the blood of many Confederates today. Any day that happens is good. And the destroyers weren't completely destroyed. Systems from them may be salvageable."
"Very good then," Sibren replied. "I'm going to my quarters and write up a report. Send boarding parties to finish off any survivors, take any technology we may have missed, and then destroy these ships. We're not leaving evidence."
"Understood sir," the ensign replied.
Then Sibren went to write the reports. One for the Shadow Masters, and one for the leadership of Kragon Corp.

Meanwhile, in the dark space where Kargon's space station is perched, the government investigators, on-board a Sherman class cruiser, warped in after being called by Kragon.
"Captain, I don't see anything wierd here. Well, except for the volcanic planet in the background."
"That volcanic planet certainly makes things wierd. However, we are to investigate whether Kragon is doing something shadowy behind our backs."
"Sir... an IS battleship is approaching us."
"did they say anything?"
"...Nothing."
"But-"
At that moment, 68 cloaked Sherman class cruisers opened fire at the unsuspecting vessel, successfully destroying its propulsion system.
"I knew it! Send a message back home before we all blow up here!!"
"Sir, comms are jammed! We can't send a message!"
"So this is how it ends..."
At that moment, the IS opened fire, and the vessel sent to investigate blew to a thousand pieces, the shattered hull a monument to a failure...

After the vessel was destroyed, Sibren began the return journey to Kaarlazen. The salvagers had done an excellent job stripping down the science vessels, and others had connected tractor beams to the Confederate destroyers. A good portion of the vessels were still intact, but would need extensive repair. Even so, they would be fine weapons for the Ascendancy.
In a bold move, Sibren decided to patch himself through to the Kargon leadership as well as his Shadow Master patron. Once the channel had been established, both men appeared surprised. Sibren said in an even voice to the astonished men, "The mission is completed and a resounding success. Kargon Corp has provided us fine equipment. I've destroyed all evidence of the Confederate forces, except some destroyers I thought it prudent to pilfer. They'll be taken below the Great Ash Fog to our shipyards, to be refitted with our weaponry. Of course, Kargon associates are welcome anytime on Kaarlatzen. Your ships performed very well." Sibren then focused on the Master and said, "Councillor. Mission success. Tactics executed, Confederates slain."

"I am proud to hear that our weapons are very fine.", said the Kragon CEO. "By the way, my ships destroyed the government investigator without a trace, so you can now pose as them and say you found nothing."
Meanwhile, the Shermans and the IS cloaked themselves, waiting to fire upon and obliterate any invesitigator that comes near.
